WHAT IS MOXIBUSTION ?
Moxibustion is a technique of stimulating in order to increase the energy of the body through the acupuncture points by heating them with dried herbal preparation of Artemesia vulgaris (or common mugwort). The form of moxibustion used by Dr. Go is a cigar of tightly rolled and slowly burning moxa held near the skin at the needle sites requiring strengthening. The lit moxa cigar tip is held at a distance of one to one and one-half centimeters from the skin and is gently passed near each point. Moxibustion can be combined with manual manipulation of the needles, or performed at the same time as electrical stimulation of the needles.
WHAT IS CUPPING ?
Cupping is the vacuum applicatiojn of glass cups over areas of myofascial pain. This functions to stimulate blood flow to the surface of the back to relax the muscles. Myofascial tension is due to stagnation of energy, blood and body fluid. Thus, cupping mobilizes the stagnation and improves the sluggish circulation to relieve the pain.
WHAT IS SCRAPING ?
Scraping is a technique where the surface area of myofascial pain is scraped with a smooth-edged intrument such as a Guasha tool or a porcelain spoon. This function in the same way as cupping, that is to stimulate blood flow to the surface of the back to relax the muscles. Myofascial tension is due to stagnation of energy, blood and body fluid. Thus, scraping mobilizes the stagnation and improves the sluggish circulation to relieve the pain.
